In this image it shows an ahupuaʻa that extends from the mountain to the sea. The responsibilities of each and every person in this ahupuaʻa are to take care of the land and to gather resources in order to survive. It shows people at shore catching fish with their spears, people working in loʻi pathces, and people gathering water from the stream.
Thesis
The Kuleana Act of 1850 forced native tenants in Hawaiʻi to adapt to a new tenure system, which gave them rights and responsibilities to a fee simple title for land that they cultivated or for land in which they intended to cultivate.
